| Radio Liberty and the situation in Armenia |
[Apr. 6th, 2008|04:46 pm] |
The fact that I am not a big fun of Radio Liberty’s or BBC’s editorial policies on Armenia is not a big secret to anyone who reads my journal (check the tags rfe/rl and bbc for details). It's good that more and more people from outside of Armenia start noticing the bias too.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Provokes, Incites The Crowds In Armenia By Giving Misinformation
James K. Glassman Chairman of the BBC
Jeffrey Gedmin, Director RFERL
Dear Sirs,
I have on numerous occasions complained to you regarding the bias reporting of your Armenian desk which has done everything in order to provoke and incite the crowds by giving misinformation.
Its now obvious that you have an agenda which is to have a regime change in Armenia, this can only done by the methods you have activated through your Armenian desk.
You should all be ashamed of your service to your so called Liberty, in other words change regimes to suit your designs in the area which you have done in Iraq and in other countries.
I will never again listen to your station, its so obvious what you stand for.
Yours sincerely Mihran Keheyian London
Several days ago I was a witness to one such psyop by Radio Liberty. I stopped a cab to get to the downtown Yerevan from one of the suburbs. The cab-driver was listening to RL, and they were reporting about the «opposition walks» at the Northern Avenue which took place regularly at around 6-7 PM every day. If you listened to their report it was like there was a civil war to break out in a moment. The radio hosts sounded excited, alarmed, almost hysterical. Needless to say, that when I got to Abovyan street (which is next to the Northern Ave.), there were just several dozens pedestrians and less than a dozen police officers there. But if you were elsewhere in Yerevan at that moment you would get the feeling that the war is going to start any moment... |

| Online petition RE: March 1st Riots in Yerevan, Armenia |
[Mar. 4th, 2008|04:25 pm] |
http://www.petitiononline.com/yerevan/petition.html
PLEASE DISTRIBUTE THE LINK AND SIGN THE PETITION IF YOU ARE AN ARMENIAN CITIZEN =========================================================
We, the undersigned citizens of Armenia not affiliated with any government bodies or with the marginal opposition groups, state the following:
The events of March 1, 2008 in Yerevan, Armenia are an attempt of a rebellion, which had nothing to do with peaceful opposition actions. Witnesses confirm that the police and the authorities in general refrained from resorting to force as long as possible. The state authorities patiently waited for 9 days for the unauthorized demonstration to end, but the marginalized part of the opposition led by Levon Ter-Petrosyan continued illegal activities with calls to overthrow government with revolutionary means. This was a Gandhi on surface, Bolshevist in essence "singing and dancing revolution" to quote Ter-Petrosyan himself. The actions of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s supporters ended in deaths (both among the protesters and police forces), burning and looting — something unseen even during the protests of 1988, when hundreds of thousands of Armenians were taking part in the demonstrations for the freedom of Nagorno Karabakh.
We strongly believe that now Levon Ter-Petrosyan is a direct threat to the statehood of Armenia.
The feeling of revenge, personal business interests and affiliations are the motives behind Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s scandalous comeback. While we criticize our government for many weaknesses and faults we strongly believe that Levon Ter-Petrosyan is the last person in the world to be interested in strengthening democracy in Armenia. The reasons for us to think so are:
1. Ter-Petrosyan was the first leader of the Republic of Armenia to practice large scale electoral fraud (elections of 1996, Vazgen Manukian being the real winner).
2. Ter-Petrosyan was the first one to use army against the protesters (after falsifying the results of presidential elections in 1996).
3. Ter-Petrosyan was the first to suppress free speech, by closing newspapers (some of us remember quite well policemen throwing computers out of the office windows of the “Yerkir” daily).
4. Ter-Petrosyan was the first leader in the Republic of Armenia to shut down a political party and throw its members into jail (the infamous “Dro” case).
5. Ter-Petrosyan was the very person under whose wing the oligarchic families were born. Actually all the current Armenian oligarchs became rich during Ter-Petrosyan’s rule. Moreover, while his supporters criticize oligarchs, the major donor for the Ter-Petrosyan’s campaign is another oligarch.
6. Ter-Petrosyan was the person who brought to power current Armenian authorities — who are now being called criminals and bandits by the supporters of the ex-president.
7. Yet the most important... Ter-Petrosyan is the very person who killed Armenians’ belief in justice, law and freedom of speech.
With everything said above, we urge our compatriots to stay sober and do not fall for the disinformation and PR-campaign started by Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s supporters.
We call on the government of Armenia to conduct thorough investigation and bring to fair trial all instigators of disturbances and civil unrest. With enough evidence of complicity immunity should be lifted from Ter Petrosyan himself. In true democracy no one can be above the law. |

| More letters to Armenians in Diaspora |
[Mar. 4th, 2008|03:03 pm] |
Pro-Levon PR consultants have done tremendous job in spreading disinformation among the Armenian communities worldwide. Below are 2 more of my replies to people from Diaspora...
Sona ****** wrote: > You wrote so SURLY "No pregnant women were beaten, > no kids injured..." check the world news sometimes. > Keep yourself updated. Nad why are you SO SURE ? > http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0302/armenia.html
The link you posted says NOTHING about pregnant women being beaten, as well as kids. If it wasn't the source of information you intended to refer, then please post the correct link.
Thank you.

There is no mass media at this point in Yerevan. While pro-Levon web sites, being hosted on the American soil, continue to spread disinformation, some idiot in the government ordered to shut down all the local news sources. Thus my information is based on:
A. an investigation conducted by Dr. Dilanyan, a friend of mine who personally phoned 41 medical workers from Yerevan hospitals and collected data from them: http://dilanyan.livejournal.com/174846.html
He is ready to confirm what he wrote under the oath.
B. information from another my friend Anna *******, who has also phoned number of her colleagues in different medical institutions in Yerevan.
C. The fact that I live in the center of Yerevan and have witnessed some of the events from the window of my apartment. Like shot being fired INTO the sky, not into the crowd. I am ready to repeat this under an oath.
D. My interviews with people living in the middle of the area affected by the riot, who eye-witnessed the events from the windows of their apartments.
On the other side, as I have already mentioned in my blog, the further are people from the center of the city, the higher is the imaginable body count: http://ahousekeeper.livejournal.com/181447.html
Please understand, that the people you talk to, if they are not eye witnesses, may be as well victims of the same disinformation campaign of spreading rumors and gossips, that is now being conducted in the Diaspora.
I am not asking you to believe the information I provide. What I ask you all is to involve critical thinking when getting and passing information to others around you.
> Stop being naive and stop defending killers who attacked people peacefully sleeping without any provocation.
Let me see how long are you going to stay peacefully asleep if you decide to establish a tent camp in Times Square. 1 day? 2 days? 9 days?
No, I am sure you will be arrested in less than 10 minutes, no matter how important your cause is. So who's naive here?
Best regards, Karen Vrtanesyan
What worries me a lot, that people who support what I say, reply me privately, while those who attack me broadcast the messages to all of the recepients. No, it does not hurt me personally, but raises concerns about the level of agression that is being generated from pro-Levon circles. |

| My reply to an Armenian girl from Diaspora |

Satenik ******* wrote in reply to 7 reasons for those who remember 1991-1998:

If > whatever LTP has done, why didnt they changes it all? or they are not > that smart enough?>??
Dear Satenik,
your response ("If LTP was the one...") clearly indicates that you have no idea about the history of Armenia in 1991–1998.
Why Serge or Kocharyan didn't stop it? Because Ter-Petrosyan, Serge and Kocharyan are the product of the same System. The System was established by Levon himself, Serge and Kocharyan are just following the steps of its founder.
Neither Serge nor Kocharyan, nor anyone from their team are beloved by me, as you claim. But Levon Ter-Petrosyan is even worse: not only he started the whole corruption carousel in Armenia, but dares now to send people to be beaten by police, just to fulfill his political ambitions.
But I did not reply to Suzy to start this stupid blame-storming session. I just asked her not to spread DISINFORMATION.
And this is what I ask you all too: DO NOT SPREAD STUPID LIES. No pregnant women were beaten, no kids injured, the Opera theater wasn't blown up. Moreover, I beg everyone not to get involved into the shitty game of "hayastanci vs gharabaghci", because it is the Turks who benefit from it not Armenians.
Best regards, Karen Vrtanesyan |

| 7 reasons for those who remember 1991-1998 |
[Mar. 3rd, 2008|06:09 am] |
Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s team now tries to present their boss as the only opposition candidate, who will definitely build new democratic Armenia.
Below are seven reasons for why any person interested in establishing democracy in Armenia must support anyone but Ter-Petrosyan.
1. Ter-Petrosyan was the first person in the Republic of Armenia to practice large scale electoral fraud (elections of 1996, Vazgen Manukian being the real winner).
2. Ter-Petrosyan was the first person in the Republic of Armenia to use army against the protesters (after falsifying the results of presidential elections in 1996).
3. Ter-Petrosyan was the first person in the Republic of Armenia to suppress free speech, by shutting down newspapers (I remember quite well policemen throwing computers out of the office windows of “Yerkir” daily).
4. Ter-Petrosyan was the first person in the Republic of Armenia to shut down a political party and throw its members into jail (yes, the infamous “Dro” case).
5. Ter-Petrosyan was the very person under whose wing the oligarchic families were born. Actually all the current oligarchs became rich during Ter-Petrosyan’s rule. Moreover, while his supporters criticize oligarchs, the major donor for the Ter-Petrosyan’s campaign is another oligarch.
6. Ter-Petrosyan was the person who brought to power Serge Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan — who are now being called criminals and bandits by the supporters of the ex-president.
7. Yet the most important... Ter-Petrosyan is the very person who killed Armenians’ belief in justice, law and freedom of speech.
This is why I strongly believe that Ter-Petrosyan is the last person in the world interested in establishing democracy in Armenia. Levon Ter-Petrosyan is an immediate threat to the existence of Armenia. |

| Against the propaganda and disinformation |
[Mar. 3rd, 2008|12:56 am] |
Someone from California just sent me (among tens of other addressees) a letter of her correspondence with some hysterical woman from Yerevan, with all the disinformation about «peaceful demonstrators» being attacked by police.
And she was asking the recipients to forward the letter to others. I am sure there will be many letters like this, circulating in Diaspora and Expat community.
I do not ask anyone to believe government propaganda (which is actually non-existent at this point), but I am asking to think critically about what you are reading. The propaganda cliches like «pregnant women and kids being beaten by the police» are well known and are intended to turn off critical thinking barriers and target to the deepest human instincts.
You may or may not agree with me, but it is not a «Opposition vs Government» conflict, because Levon Ter-Petrosyan leads a rather marginal group within the opposition. Yesterday events were not «peaceful protests» but an attempt to incite a rebellion. Yet many of the participants didn't even understand how they were manipulated and thrown against the police to be beaten just for the sake of attracting CNN’s attention.
I supported none of the candidates during this presidential election: because it wasn't actually an election but an imitation of it. Levon Ter-Petrosyan was much worse choice than Serge Sargisyan, and vice versa. I have always voiced criticism against the government and the ruling elite, just browse through my blog entries to see that. However today Levon Ter-Petrosian is a direct threat to the statehood of Armenia.
Today I am asking all the fellow Armenians to think carefully over everything they read and hear not to become another transmitter of disinformation. |
